I just plotted this migratory pattern down on a Map. Depending on which is true, there isn't a huge deal of movement happening. It is basically 263 miles from York, SC to Tattnall Co, GA if you go through orangeburg, SC.

This seems like a reasonable moving pattern over the course of 40 or 50 years to me. Especially given the Civil War was during that time.
