I answered this, but it is in outerspace somewhere. Maybe the illusive Blalock father of Millington (the younger) and Thomas Blalock of Person Co. will answer us - just kidding.
I firmly believe that Barbara was connected to the John who lived in Granville Co. whose wife was Mary Hudspeth. Lynch Creek (where a group of Lynch families lived prior to the Rev.) was only a short distance in Granville Co. where John lived and where Caide (Kade), David and Jeremiah lived. John did move from Granville Co. to Surrey Co. and the deed records state that.He sold the land on Low Ground Creek and that is where Jeremiah also sold land. There were several transactions of John with the Hudspeth family on the same creek. That creek was a small one which flowed into Fishing Creek which flowed south into the Tar River. It was only about 10 miles or less just north of Lynch Creek.
According to legend - just prior to the Rev., one of the British officers in eastern N.C. sent a messenger to Granville Co. to collect taxes. A group of farmers caught him and hung him on Lynch creek, and that is where the word lynch originated.Don't know if that's true, but the word originated around 1830 according to "Webster." However, I always recall what a renowned English Professor of a major university told me over 40 years ago- "You can't always count on what those liberal writers put in writing to be true. You keep on spelling per cent as two words Mrs. Blalock because that is right!"
Back to the Blalocks- This was also not very far from where Millington and Thomas lived but they did not witness any transactions together.
I firmly believe that John of Granville, as well as David and Jeremiah who married in Granville Co. in the 1780's were from the elder Caide or Kade who was buying at the store in Hanover Co., VA in the early 1700's. Kade Jr. was already buying in 1732.I believe one of John's sons of Granville was named Caide.
It is possible that John of Wake did have a son named John who could easily have been John of Granville, but I doubt it.There is only one reference to John Jr. in the Wake/Johnson records.John and Sarah moved out, but sold land after they left, and the land they sold after they left - the elder Millington signed for them. Kade Sr. of Hanover was married to Sarah Caide (Kade), as was the elder John of Wake Co. but just about every family had daughters named Mary and Sarah. The elder Millington died in the 1775-1780's in Wake Co. and his wife, Mourning
died in 1801.The elder Millington sold his land in Brunswick Co., VA (just north of Granville Co. in 1747 and bought land in Wake and had many transactions with his brother John whose wife was Sarah.
The records in Granville clearly state where John and Mary had moved to and he was listed as a wagoner in Granville Co.
The later Millington of Person co.(my husband's ancestor)'s children were listed in Millington Jr's records and they are recorded in an old small booklet which Millington Jr.'s daughter or granddaughter sent to the N.C. Archives.
I wish I had more, but those are some clues. It is also possible that John and Mary of Granville was the older brother of Jeremiah and David who both married in Granville co., as well as Barbara. They almost always married in the bride's county.
The William Blalock who was in Brunswick Co., VA in the 1790's and moved to Orange co. at that time (Orange bordered Person)children are mentioned, and this is definitely not the earlier William.
There are only 5 mentions of the earlier William, and there is almost no information in those mentions - one a tax record, and a couple of witnessing deeds. William Jr. is mentioned in one tax record, and there is a note about one William deserting during the Rev. War, but I have not found additional records on that.
There was also an earlier David Blalock in western Orange co., but he died in the 1771 I believe and his wife was Ann and no children are mentioned. There were several later David Blalocks.
Sorry I don't have more info.
Betty
