According to another long-time Blalock researcher, John Blalock born 1/4/1775, son of Millington Blalock and Eliza (no last name is definitely known for Eliza)married Catherine "Katy" Cash, daughter of John Cash and Lucretia Sherman(?)Cash on 11/19/1794. That researcher has several children listed but only three named. They are Green Blalock born 1795 and married Nancy Blalock 7/23/1816 in Person County. A Robert Blalock signed as witness to that marriage. He was the brother of John Blalock. The second child of John and Catherine listed was Elizabeth Blalock married Thompson Baker 10/7/1813 in Person Co. The third child listed is William Blalock born about 1798 who married Sarah (Sally) Hargis on 1/11/1817 in Orange Co. From my research on the Blalocks, I believe that William to be the William who in 1832 in Bledsoe Co. TN petitioned for a divorce from Sarah Blalock, stating that Sary had left him on January 8, 1828 and went to Roanne Co., TN leaving him with 6 small children. The petition on William's behalf was signed by 13 people. The six children were not named in the printed divorce petition.
Now, some of the information concerning the Person County Blalocks is wrong, but most is right about them coming from Louisa/Hanover Counties, VA. I have been sent information that is authentic from an excellent researcher (not Blalock)named Andy that sheds a little more light on the Blalocks from that area. These are merchant records of the Blalock purchases (charges) at a store. There must have been many children because there was much cloth and thread purchased (or they changed curtains often). From those records and information from the parish records, as well as land deals, the records show that John Blalock will was probated in the 1740's.Richard Blalock(known to be the son of the elder John)and John Jr. are shown with purchases next. Richard was married to Sarah Cade (Kade)and Richard Jr. is also listed by the 1730's. Richard Jr.'s wife was named Rachael.Richard Sr. may have died, because after he was not listed with purchases Sarah Blalock is listed with purchases and it was usually the same day as Richard Jr. Kade (Caide)also made purchases shortly after Richard Jr. and he too was listed on the same days as Sarah.
I have found where and when the Blalock's first came to N.C. prior to moving to Granville/Person/Caswell/Orange Counties. They were in Johnson County (now northern Wake County)and John Blalock had a mill on the three prongs of Barton Creek (as they met before entering the Neuse River). This area is currently under water, as the Neuse has been dammed, just east of Hwy. 50 from Creedmoor to Raleigh about where Hwy. 98 crosses Hwy.50. John Blalock's wife was named Sarah and they received a patent on the land there and were there by the 1750's. According to land records, he and his sons built a road from his mill to Lick Creek which is in current southeast Durham (formerly Orange)and it was called in the record "Blalock's improvements." This would be about the route of Hwy. 98 as it goes west from just east of Hwy. 50 toward Durham (called the Wake Forest Hwy.). Listed in records in Johnson (Wake/Orange) are William and Millington (who were briefly just north above the N.C./VA line in Brunswick/Mecklenburg County). I can tell you that that area just north of the border seemed to be a stopping off place in VA while waiting to obtain land in N.C. in the mid 1700's. One record of taxpapers in Brunswick looks like the names of taxpayer records in Granville Co. 10 years later.Listed in (current Wake) along with John appears William, Millington, and Isham. Richard (Jr.) appears to have moved directly to another county in N.C. However, Jeremiah who married Lucy Bradford in 1781 and David who married Frances Champion in 1782 were likely sons of Richard. Richard is listed as the father of David in one record. Now this likely was Richard Jr., not Senior. In Louisa co. near the Blalocks there were Burfords and these Burfords also show up in Granville Co. in the late 1700's.
When John Blalock and his sons left the area in current northern Wake co., they bought land on Little and Camp Creeks (which is just north of where they were)and currently on the corner border of Durham/Granville/Person, Durham being formerly Orange Co.This is very close to where Cub Creek begins. William stayed in Orange and had only one son according to his will and that is very clear and his name was Hubbard. Hubbard married Patsy Ward in 1808 and the Wards were also near the Blalocks in Louisa/Hanover Cos. I do not believe that William is the father of Millington in Person - I believe his father was John or the elder Millington. I have not seen Millington's (the elder)will, but there is an estate record for his wife Mourning in 1801. She also bought items at the sale of John Proctor's estate and Isham and Millington Blalock witnessed the will of William Abbott in 1777. Abbott's grandson was Simms Abbott and there was also a record of Sarah Sims signing something with the Blalocks.
After Millington of Person sold his land on Little and Camp Creeks he bought land on Cub creek. Now, one report says that Cub Creek and Deep creek is the same, but that is absolutely incorrect. They were all over Cub Creek which starts in southeastern Person Co., flows north then into Granville co. and meets with several more streams called Cub Creek in eastern Person just inside the western central section of Granville Co. and then into the Tar River just inside the Person/Granville Co. line. I know this area well as I live close and I have done extensive research on Cub Creek as a landfill is blocking several of these streams.Millington of Person also bought land on Rocky Fork Creek (flows just west of my home and flows south into Deep Creek - and in fact he owned the very land that my grandfather Adcock bought in 1907. He then bought land on Deep Creek. Most of his descendants have hishistory from there. My husband descends from the Person Millington. If only the area where the three prongs of Barton Creek come together were not under water, we might be able to find the exact spot and see if there were old graves.
Vital information is that first sons were NEVER named after the father - they were usually named after the mother's father - either the last name or the first. The exceptions were if there were dead uncles or childless uncles or dead brothers on either side then the name was given. The next sons were named after grandfathers on either side, and it was usually the fourth or fifth sons before one was named after the child's father. I have only seen an exception once in my research of about 10 families in this area and that was when several daughters were born prior to a son being born.
Another item is that the William Blalock in TN whom some are searching was listed in the will of Millington Blalock, Jr. (son of the Person co. Millington)in 1837 in Granville Co. as being Millington Jr.'s deceased son in TN and he listed in his will William's children as Robert, William, Millington and Etna "also in TN." - William being married to Lucy Haliburton. The Haliburtons were in eastern Person Co. near the Granville Co. border for several years.
Millington Jr.'s son, John P. Blalock, was born 1/25/1815 and married Elizabeth Boswell 1/13/1835 in Granville Co. and John P's sister, Emily blalock called "Milley" was born 11/28/1806 - married to Edward Boswell and supposedly moved to Henderson Co. TN. Millington Jr. was married to Rebecca Philpott.Millington Jr.'s sister, Martha Blalock, married William Philpott and she died young and prior to Millington Jr., as he listed his niece, Martha Philpott, in his will "daughter of Martha Philpott deceased daughter of Millington Blalock Sr."Millington Jr.s son, Thomas blalock was born 8/21/1810 in Granville Co., married Rowan Sherman 7/29/1837 and he died in 1843 in western Granville Co. near the Person border.
