Nick:

Interesting information. And interesting theories. I've knocked around alternative theories myself. But I keep going back to the family names Joshua and Ambrose. Ambrose is not common, and passing on names of relatives was, and still is, a way that families recognize their ancestors. To this day, my family's tradition is to give the sons the names of their grandparents and uncles as their middle name. (I.E. Father's father William; Mother's father Peter; their oldest child Howard William; their second oldest son James Peter). You can't discount that connection easily.

Also, Ambrose's property was on the property line of Benjamin Brown. He also was a neighbor of the Mullins. We do not know the name of Ambrose Sr.'s wife, Katherine and Ambrose Jr's mother. We know of no other siblings for Katherine and Ambrose Jr., so they could have been married into these same families.

I don't know. There isn't proof of any of these theories -- just speculation. My bet is that the Smith connection is better than the most.

Now, as to whether she remarried to Blalock, I agree. I find no proof of this.

I appreciate your input. I've worked on so many lines (and am still working on others) that they get forgotten. Not real fair to those who went before us!

Linda M.
