The first John Blakney in our line was born Abt. 1740 in Limerick, Ireland. He was a ship's captain, I have been told, and wound up in South Carolina. He had a son Thomas, who was born abt. 1760 and died 1832 in Chesterfield County, SC. His wife's name was Harriet UNKNOWN. This Thomas was a Rev. War soldier from SC. He lived in SC for a time, then moved to North Carolina where he died. Harriet died first because her will leaves all to her children, under her husband's supervision. They had 5 children I know of: John b. 1800 SC d. 1869 Tishomingo County, MS; Frederick b. 1796 SC d. 1870 Tishomingo County, MS (both had families); Alvin; Tobins; and Thomas Jr. Our John Blakney is MS married Winnifred Wilson (1807-1879). She was part Cherokee Indian. John and Winnie had 8 children, all of whom stayed in Tishomingo County, MS. One of their sons, William Henry Blakney (1832-1906) married Laura Jane Presley (1836 NC - 1899 MS)about 1855. W. H. and Laura Jane had 6 children, including Benjamin Thomas Blakney (1857-1928), and the line goes on into the next 4 generations, all still in Tishomingo County. Our MS John was born in SC, moved with his father to NC, then moved on to TN, then finally into MS before 1840 census. This probably just confused the issue, but I hope it helped a little bit.
