Lyn...you wrote: "Again, this needs some sorting out, but Ann Brisco seems to be Ann Petty, daughter of Maxamilian and Christian Petty." I did not quite following your logic on the above. I would greatly appreciate it if you would explain how you came to the conclusion that Ann Petty and Ann Briscoe might have been the same person. Was she BORN a Petty but MARRIED a Briscoe before she married Thomas Smith? Note: I understand that "Briscoe" and "Bristow" are essentially "interchangable" It now appears that I am a descendant of the above Thomas Smith ( a descendant of the John Smith who died in Middlesex Co., VA in 1669) and his wife Ann. Their daughter Ann Smith married her next-door neighbor John Smith (a descendant of the Alexander Smith who died in Middlesex Co., VA in 1696), and this last couple had Colonel Maurice Smith (who married the widow Mrs. Catherine (Carter) Jones in 1753...Catherine was the widow of Humphrey Jones and daughter of Peter Carter and Catherine Rogers). Colonel Maurice Smith and his wife had a son named John Smith, and John Smith apparently married Sarah Waller around 1788 (and John and Sarah lived in Mathews Co., VA). I suspect that my gg-grandfather, Smith W. Brown, was a child or grandchild of John and Sarah (Waller) Smith who was adopted by John and Mary (Bennett) Brown (and DNA proves that my mother's "Brown line" was actually a "Smith line" that "traces back" to the family of the Alexander Smith who died in Middlesex in 1696). Any info on the referenced "Briscoe/Petty connection" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Notify Administrator about this message?
