The older Coleman Brown (son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Coleman) Brown) was apparently married to a Mary. Some have claimed that she was Mary Oxford, but a Mary Oxford married a possibly unrelated John Brown (out of Prince William Co., VA...though this Brown and Oxford family also "found their way" to Culpeper Co., VA in the 1700s). We are relatively certain that it was the younger Coleman Brown (son of John and Elizabeth (Brown) Brown) who married Catherine Nalle. I don't know, however, if anyone is certain of Catherine's parents. The DNA donor who is almost certainly out of Coleman and Catherine (Nalle) Brown that I mentioned had several ancestors whose names were Daniel Nalle Brown, and one member of his family in KY (where several of the Browns out of Culpeper moved) had the familiar name of "Grizzell" Brown (taken, of course, from the Miss Grizzell that one of the early Robert Coleman's had married...they were the parents of the Robert Coleman who married Miss Spilsby). DNA testing has now shown that there were AT LEAST three unrelated Brown families in Culpeper Co., VA in the 1700s, and it appears that at least two of these three unrelated Brown families intermarried (when a John Brown from "Group 47" married a Phoebe Brown from "Group 10"...Phoebe Brown called a William Ambrose Brown "brother" on his Rev. War pension application, and William Ambrose Brown's living male Brown descendant is in "Group 10" in the Brown DNA testing project). Note: Some have claimed that the John Brown who married Phoebe Brown was a son of John and Elizabeth (Brown) Brown, but their son named John seems to have married someone else entirely.....and DNA now seems to prove that this was a different Brown family. If you look at the Culpeper tax list around 1783, as I recall, you will see a man named Garfield Brown. A descendant of that Garfield Brown is also in the Brown DNA testing project, and he also matches "Group 47." Garfield Brown apparently came into Orange/Culpeper from Louisa Co., VA, so there was never any strong reason to suspect that he was related to "your" Daniel Brown. Francis Brown "I" of Essex Co., VA had sons: a) Daniel Brown "I" (who married Jane Copeland, and b) Francis Brown "II" (the father of "your" Daniel Brown "II" who married Elizabeth Coleman). One of the sons of Daniel Brown "I" and Jane Copeland was the Abraham Brown who married Mary Tribble and who died in Caroline Co., VA by 1735 (said to be the parents of the John Brown who married his cousin Elizabeth Brown in Orange/Culpeper Co., VA). Mary Tribble had a nephew who was named Shadrack Tribble, and Shadrack married an apparently somewhat younger Elizabeth Coleman who was from the same overall Coleman family as "your" Elizabeth Coleman. Shadrack Tribble and "his" Elizabeth Coleman had several children, including a son who was named Spilsby Tribble. Notify Administrator about this message?
