John Blakey, b.1793, NC, Gwinnett County 1850 census--Please help

Found previous information leading me to the home of John Blakey, b. 1793, N.C. and is listed in the 1850 Gwinnett County census with children:

William, 24, Souson, 19, Like, 18, Henry, 16, CAROLINE,14, Mary, 13, Elizabeth, 10, Mathilda, 8, Georgia, 5, John, 3, and William, 100.

There is no wife listed in this report.

I descend from Caroline, who is in the 1860 census with children Olivia, 8, Catharin (Catherine)5, and Mark, 2. Caroline (Carrie in later census reports) is listed as BLAKEY for her surname.

Is anyone descended from the children of John Blakey, that has any information on this line, and also, can shed some light on why Caroline retains the Blakey surname? (Widdowed/Married to cousin/Unmarried?)

Last has anyone an area in North Carolina from which this Blakey family migrated ?

Many Thanks.
