Blakeney Family Genealogy Forum

I have an encyclopedia of information on the Blakeneys of Ireland. I don't know where to start: here goes! The bulk of the Blakeneys moved from England to Ireland in the reign of Elizabeth I: that group was closely related. They split into two groups: one moving to County Galway and building Castle Blakeney: the other to Kilmallock in County Limerick to build Mount Blakeney Castle. The Castle in Galway has disappeared completely but walls and arches of Mount Blakeney were standing in 1925. I have an Irish genealogist working on this at the moment. I am a direct descendant from Capt. John Blakeney of our Revolutionary War fame. He was born at Mount Blakeney in l732, immigrated to the colonies and fought with Gen. Marion in S.C. He died in 1832. I believe that your family line is from County Galway by way of Dublin and thence to America. Do you have a copy of John Oscar Blakeney's book [1928] "THE BLAKENEYS IN AMERICA ? Very important reference. We are distantly related from the migrants, England to Ireland, in the 17th centure. We come from a proud and ancient clan: the de Blakneys of Norman origin who were at Runnymede and were involved in the construcction of the Magna Charta. My 7 great uncle, Sir William Blakeney, Lord of Mount Blakeney and General to George II, is buried in the floor of Westminster Abbey. His dates: l672-l761. This is a miniscule capsule of my information on Blakeneys. May I help you ? These ramblings may not help much. Best regards, RBH
