Sorry for the delay in posting this. I tried on 22 May, but the GenForum was not taking new posts, so I have dug out my notes from then.
Capt. Curtiss Blakeman (who died at Marine Settlement, Illinois 25 June 1838) originated in the Bridgeport, Conn. area and is not associated with Blakeman families that originated in the South. He was baptized at St. Paul's (Episcopal) Church, Huntington, Conn. (near Stratford and Bridgeport) 27 April 1778, son of Phineas Blackman or Blakeman (1745-1812) by his first wife Elizabeth Waldecker (d. 1781). Phineas is a sixth-generation descendant of Rev. Adam Blackman or Blakeman (1596-1665), the first minister at Stratford, Conn. in 1639. The Bridgeport Congregational Church register notes that Phineas died at the Bridgeport home of his son, Capt. Curtiss Blakeman, in 1812. The younger Curtiss Blakeman and the Munson Hinman Blakeman mentioned in the post were half-brothers, sons of Capt. Curtiss Blakeman; Curtiss Jr. was b. Bridgeport 4 Dec. 1807 (his mother was Capt. Blakeman's first wife Lavinia Mead); and Munson Hinman Blakeman was b. (the best I can make out) 4 July 1828, son of Capt. Blakeman and his second wife Eliza Mead, sister of Lavinia. The George W. Blakeman also is a brother, who fits between the two. Descendants of this branch are the subject of a book by Marabel Gates and Martha Reimer, THE WILLIAM ALBERT BLAKEMAN FAMILY RECORD, published in Gillette, Wyoming in 1983 and available in some libraries. The authors had not had access to Capt. Curtiss Blakeman's baptism in Connecticut and family placement, however. I derive his sons' DOBs from their book.

Curtiss Blakeman, is Phineas6 (Abraham [Jr.]5 & Sarah [Booth?] Curtiss; Abraham4 & Elizabeth Barley; John3 & Mary Kimberly; John2 & Dorothy Smith; Rev. Adam1 & Jane ----). Phineas Blakeman's first wife Elizabeth Waldecker is appar. of a recent German family also spelled as Wattaker or Waldizer (the surname is derived from Waldeck, a German place name). Phineas; his parents and probably siblings; his wife; and appar. her sisters, all belonged to the Episcopal Church at Stratford and Huntington. In colonial New England, for whatever reason, Episcopalians usually failed to report their vital data (births, marriages, deaths) to the town clerk, so records for this branch are rather foggy.
