My direct ancestor is mentioned in your Item #6-James BLAKELY who purchased land in Columbiana Co. Ohio in 1835. My ancestor, James BLAKELY was born in England; mother's name Sarah. He had brothers John S. and William and sister, Alice. James B. BLAKELY, b. 6-15-1804 in England, married Susanna SMYTH, dau. of John Edward SMYTH and Anna Margaret RUFFNER on Nov. 4, 1827, and they settled in Pittsburgh, Pa.where they lived until after 1860 when they moved to St. Marys, Elk Co., Pa., both dying there. James & Susanna were the parents of 11 children, though the obit of one of their sons said 13 children. John Simpson BLAKELY, b. abt. 1809, married Jemima Cecelia FORTUNE on Aug. 22, 1833 in Pittsburgh, Pa. They later removed to E. Liverpool, Columbiana Co., Ohio where both brothers (James & John) were engaged in the pottery business. John & Jemima were the parents of 4 children, all born in E. Liverpool, Ohio. About 1860 John moved his family to St. Louis, MO. where he died Feb. 12, 1877 Alice BLAKELY, b. 1811 in England, married a Calvin DODGE Nov. 27, 1832 in Pittsburgh. She died Mar. 1, 1901 in Washington DC at the home of her daughter, Alice McFADDEN. This BLAKELY family arrived in the US from England in Sept. 1819, according to the naturalization papers of James. The brother William was also naturalized a year later, in 1830. Other than that, I have no information on the brother, William. If anyone can identify with this BLAKELY family, would love to hear from you! Laura W. Glass-Steneck Notify Administrator about this message?
