Unfortunately I don't have anything on Martha (and am looking for it too) but I found a piece of information on Matthew (sometimes spelled Mathew) Whitehill.
In a book on Page and Fremont County History at the Nodaway Valley Historical Museum in Clarinda, IA (20 miles from Shenandoah) says that Matthew was an orphan born in 1811 who came to America as a "bound boy" to a restaurant owner in Wheeling, West Virginia, to repay him for the cost of transportation to this country.
After marrying Martha Blakely in 1843, he farmed with his father-in-law until Confederate soldiers plundered their home. They fled to Canton, Il. where they lived for a few years until in 1872 when they learned of the "wonderful land" in Iowa. After moving to Iowa they farmed 160 acres about 5 miles south of Shenandoah.
I have pictures of Mathew and Martha's gravestones but haven't scanned them in yet.
They were the parents of my grandfather Samuel J. Whitehill.
