Lynn, I have the same problem, and frustration, as you concerning a possible link to John and Rachel. My John, the son? was somewhere in TN before coming to the Blount Co. AL by 1819. From there there is a good paper trail. I know his daughter, Mary, married Samuel Green and that they lived in Warren Co. TN. I'm puzzled by an Alexander Blakely who was in Warren Co. in 1812, the same time Mary Blakely Green and her husband Samuel were there. Son John died in Franklin Co. TN in 1818. Son James came from TN to Blount Co. AL at the same time as his dad.
I've reviewed the census records for Laurens Co. SC for 1790, 1800, and 1810. There are several Blackley/Blakeley/Blakley/Blakelys there that seem to fit the folklore about my John being the son of John and Rachel. To date that's the best I've come up with.
I look forward to exchanging information with you concerning our common interest in the Blakelys. I have yet to identify and document the immigrant.
