Dear Kimberly, The cardinal rule of genealogical research is that nothing may be accepted, or reported, as fact, until the person reporting it has personally verified it from the source document. Genealogical research can't be done on the internet for two reasons - (1.) few people posting on the net cite sources, most not even knowing the documentary sources (if they even exist) of what they're reporting, and (2.) even when they cite souces, with few exceptions, the sources can't be found on the net, and so can't be verified there. Most people on the net aren't actually doing research. They're simply looking for someone who's done, or will do, the research for them. They're confusing doing research with collecting the results of other people's research. They accept anything and everthing they're told without properly verifying it, and pass it on. In doing so, they perpetuate, and add to, major errors in family histories. In response to your posting: 1.John Blakely Sr.'s birth date is estimated, not known. There is no record of his birth date. 2. His birth place is assumed. There's no record of where he was born. 3. He appears on very few records at all, and on none with any given name other than John. Given the time at which he was born, not unless he was a member of the gentry, could he have even had more than one given name. 4. It was reported by a great-grandson, but never proven it wife's surname was Orr. 5. His burial place is assumed, not known. There is no tombstone for him in the cemetary where he's reportedly buried. 6. The William Blakely who survived the massacre at Hayes Station, could possibly have been his son of that name, but certainly isn't him. Please don't misunderstand, and think I'm criticizing you. I'm not! I do know many people, sincerely interested in family history, are simply unaware the internet is a notoriously unreliable source of information. Always, Lynn Notify Administrator about this message?
