You can eliminate from consideration, probably, the following line, which didn't emigrate to California until late 1870's. (were never on the East Coast)They were originally from Cheshire, farmed at Barton, but did not live in Chester, the city. Earliest I have is Thomas BLAKE (1720-1790)m. Elizabeth --?-- about 1757. Their children include Elizabeth (died young), Benjamin, Edward, Joseph, George, Thomas, and James. I have found Edward's line down to present day in Oregon. They came directly to the west coast of the US, and I know of none of their relatives going to East Coast.
Only some of Edward's line emigrated, so descendants of all the others still live in Cheshire, and they seem to have re-used family names when it comes to naming children. So there's a bunch of John Blake's, probably, still there. I know one (in late 80's now and not good health) who had no children. I don't think any others of this Blake line emigrated to U.S. To repeat: Cheshire is a county, and Chester is the largest city and the "county seat" there. You can go online to contact the Cheshire County Records Office. Very helpful folks.
