I have some information on my Blakes from Westchester County, NY which might pertain to yours. My great great aunt, Margaret Blake, married John Spohn and lived in Hastings-on-Hudson in the early 1900's.She had two brothers, Thomas and Edward.Thomas lived near Irvington, NY and Edward lived in Yonkers. The family came from Navan, County Meath, Ireland.Thomas arrived in NY in 1881.His wife was Mary McDonnell. They had four children, Annie (born ca. 1886), Thomas (born ca. 1888), Edward (born ca. 1892), and Mary (born May 28, 1895).Mary was my maternal grandmother.Mary McDonnell died in 1896 and the three older children were placed in the Institution of Mercy (i.e. orphanage) on April 20, 1896.My grandmother, Mary, was sent to the NY Foundling Hospital in NYC and was subsequently adopted.Their father, Thomas, was admitted to the Westchester County Poorhouse three times (Nov. 12, 1897,April 25, 1898, and June 11, 1901).I don't know what happened to the three older siblings or the father.
