The Thomas Blair Mystery

My great great Grandfather Thomas Blair (1849?-1911) has been one of the biggest mysteries in my family tree. The earliest record I've been able to find is the marriage to the widow Julia Florence Bounds Cook which took place in 1894 in Redlands, San Bernardino, California. From 1894 to his death in 1911 he appears in voter registries and the 1900 and 1910 census. His death certificate doesn't have any of his parental information. It also states that his birthday was 27 Sep 1851 in New York. The 1900 Census has his birthday as Oct. 1849 in New York. The 1900 Census also has both of his parents being born in Scotland. The 1910 Census has his father being born in Scotland and mother born in the U.S. The 1910 Census also indicates that he had been married before.

Does anyone have a Thomas Blair running around prior to 1894? Thomas was a farmer who had expertise in orchards. He passed away 29 Sep 1911 in Redlands and it appears for now, took his family history with him. If anyone has any ideas on what my next step is I would appreciate it.
