James Blair - 1812 Franklin Co GA
I am researching an Isaac Freeland who lived in Franklin/Habersham Counties 1802- abt 1820. In 1812, he signed a note to James Blair for $1000.00 with 300 acres on Walker Creek Habersham Co as security. In 1854, Benjamin Cleveland acting as attorney for his wife and other heirs of James Blair, presented the note to the Habersham Co court. The court clerk did not make an accurate or complete copy of the note and it is difficult to understandthe complete agreement. For some reason, the note was held from 1839 till 1854.I'm hoping to find mention of the note in Blair's will.
I have tried unsuccessfully to find where James Blair's estate was settled. I just returned from Habersham Co GA where I looked again in the court records for the will. Two years ago, I could not find evidence in Picken Co AL records which I reviewed in the Birmingham AL genealogical library. Those filmed records, however, were very difficult to read. Does anyone know where the will was executed and where a copy might be available? I have seen it cited so it must be somewhere.
BTW The court records in Clarkesville for Habersham Co are crowded with the names James Blair and Benjamin Cleveland. They were just as often sued *for* debt and they themselves sued *to collect* debt- - together orindividually.I hope they lived close to the courthouse!
