Thanks for the interest - I had already located PB on the www.familysearch.org website, and had confirmed it on a site, which if you haven't already used it, is well worth checking out; it's www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, the official website for the General Register Office for Scotland!
You have to pay for credits to do detailed searches (£6 for thirty credits) but you can order certificates on-line as well. They have the Old Parish Records (which are not absolutely complete or exhaustive) of Births/Christenings and Marriages from 1553-1854, and the statutory registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths from 1855 to 1952 all accessible.
I have had a quick look for Janet Blair, and there are twelve recorded as born in Scotland between 1690 and 1699. Only one is recorded born in 1696, at Glamis - this is nowhere near Kilmalcolm, however.
Meanwhile I think I have found the origin of Primrose, with John Blair's mother, who seems to be Margaret Primrose (married Daniel Blair).
