MRS. SUSAN C. BLAIR, daughter of JACOB and EDITH SEARS, was born in
Franklin, Kentucky, Simpson County, on July 30, l826.When three years
old she came with her parents to Island Grove, Sangamon County,
Illinois, living there six years, moving to Macoupin County, Illinois,
and living there four years.They came to Lee County, Iowa, in October,
l839, then to Decatur County in l855, living here until December 2,
l866, when she was married to ELIJAH T. BLAIR and moved to Clarke
County, Iowa, lived there until the death of her husband, January 6,
l883.Then she again came to Decatur County where she made her home on
a farm near Leon until September 4, l9l2, when she moved to Leon, Iowa.
She taught school twenty years in Decatur and surrounding counties and
had the good will of all her pupils.
About l863, she gave her heart to God and united with the Dunkard
Church.In December, l892, she united with the Brethren Church and was
one of the charter members.She became the first charter member of the
new Leon Church and gave the first hundred dollars to the new building.
She passed away January 26th, l9l6, at the age of eighty-nine years,
five months and twenty-six days.The funeral service was conducted by
Rev. Raoul at the Brethren Church.Interment at Franklin Cemetery.
