Emeline Blair and Henry Marshall
Emeline Blair was born in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, April 9, 1844 and died of heart disease at her late home near Weldon, Iowa, April 1, 1900, aged 55 years, 11 months and 22 days. She was married to Henry Marshall, an Iowa soldier, July 4, 1869, who with two children, George B. ad Jessie A. Marshall are left to mourn the loss of a helpmate and a mother. One child, Pauline, died while yet quite young. Mrs. Marshall was the oldest of seven children, some of which were quite young when their mother died, consequently the care of them and their home fell upon the young shoulders of Emma who performed her duties as only so young could. Although her loss was great, she never gave up the hope of getting an education. Fortune favored her in that respect and after a time she again took up her thread of life where she had laid it down at her mother's death. She went to school in Leon and Osceola. She also taught in Leon besides many terms in the country round about. Even after marriage, she taught many terms in her home district. She had been the instructor of many who were in attendance at her funeral that they might with the kindliest feeling and fondest memory, look upon her face for the last time.
Mrs. Marshall united with the M.E. Church about five years ago and was faithful till the end. She was consistent in all things nd never preached what she did not practice. When the end came, she was resigned and in this instance said: "Thy will, Oh Lord, not mine, be done." She will be greatly missed not only in the home but in the community where she kindly ministered to those about her. Her body was laid away in the old famiy burying ground on the Blair farm not far from Smyma.
