I don't know if you have an answer to this question, but as I see you have been researching a Blagrove line, I am trying to find something out... Bear with me:
I currently live at Cardiff Hall Great House in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. This house was built in 1789 by Mr. John Blagrove who, it seems, was born here on the property around 1756, but spent most of his life, and died (in 1821), in England.Rumor has it that there was a much older house built on this Cattle Pen which once amounted to thousands of acres but it clearly no longer exists.
With respect to Charles Campbell Blagrove, I found a reference on another site:
http://www.danbyrnes.com.au/blackheath/thebc4.htmhttp://www.danbyrnes.com.au/blackheath/thebc4.htm
(about 2/3 of the way down) of a Thomas Blagrove having married a Campbell daughter... possibly the parents of your Charles? It seems, however, that they recycled names a lot here (Peter and John being the most common) so Charles could have been a cousin???
The story here is that Daniel Blagrove (Blagrave?) was exiled here after his part in Charles I's execution. That Daniel bushed out and created the original cattle pen hereand it is his ancestors that retained the property until the 1950's.It is true that the last Blagrove owner here was a Mr. Peter Blagrove (who, I was told, migrated to South Africa in the 1940's with his South African-born wife). However, in my research, it seems as though Daniel Blagrave was never even near Jamaica, having died in exile in Aachen, France.
Do you know, or does anyone know what the REAL Blagrove/Blagrave connection is... if one really does exist. Are the names related???
There is an ancient cemetery on the property, but time has done its damage and the older graves are so worn that it is impossible to read the names. All the graves from say 1750 onward are all Johns or Peters Blagrove. No Blagraves at all.And of course, their various wives and children.
Any info you have at all would be appreciated.
