Rebecca Blades and Joseph Crockett -- marriage license in Caroline Co, MD, 13 Dec 1790

I have been working with others on Crocketts of MD and DE, There was one Joseph Venables Crockett in the very southwest corner of Sussex Co, DE, whose family were early settlers of MD. They moved north to what became Sussex Co, DE, after the Mason-Dixon survey, and the family engaged in lumber millimg. In the early 1790s, Joseph Crockett and his first wife, name unknowm began a family.

Of course, we are wondering whether the records above is of him. Joseph was prone to using distinct names for his children. Greenbury F H, Kendall B, and Benton Harris, for example. He did name a daughter Rebecca, but that was by his second wife Ann Short.

Some of his children located around Vienna, in Dorchester Co, MD, next door to Caroline Co, MD. One son and then his widow owned land in Caroline Co, MD. In case there are any clues:

Federalsburg is 14-15 miles north and east from Vienna. Denton is about 28 miles north of Vienna. Hunting Creek is northeast from Federalsburg and near Preston which is six or seven miles northeast of Federalsburg.

On 24 March 1832, Kendal Crocket and Mary his wife, of Dorchester Co, to John Stevens, of Caroline Co, for $200 current money of MD a tract whereon Clement Turner formerly lived called "Lott and Controversy" in Caroline County and on the main road leading from Denton to Hunting Creek, adjoining lands of John Stevens, William Kelly, Thomas Edgell, and others, 200 acres. (Caroline Co, MD, Deed JR R, page 154.)

1837. On 12 Dec 1837, Mary Crockett, of Caroline Co, appeared with the deed and one endorsement, from Cannon and Sarah Charles. On 2 Dec 1837, Cannon Charles and Susan his wife, of Caroline Co, for $350, "Sandy Hill", one-half acres in Village of Federalsburg, deeded to Cannon Charles by Henry Cockin, executor of Joshua Wright (deceased) and widow Mary Wright, 7 March 1837. (Caroline Co, MD, Deed JR T, 372.)

That's everything so far.

All Best,
Donald Maring
