William Blades of Spotsylvania, -New Kent County, Va

William Blades born before 1750 prob in Spotsylvania,Va. He continued to operate a plantation in New Kent County, as well as one in Spotsylvania, during the Revolutionary War. He wittnessed a deed on Oct 13, 1770 and may have had connections in Caroline Co, Virginia. On Feb 5, 1770 William Blaydes married Mary Ann Coleman, the daughter of John and Eunice(Nice)Hawes Coleman o Spotsylvania(this information is from Blaydes bible cherished possession of Mrs. Kathleen Dauson of Livingston, Virginia. Information on Coleman and Hawes families may be found in Marshall Wingfields" History of Caroline County". Eunice (Nice) Hawes died, according to Bible on Feb 8, 1806. John Coleman was the son of Robert Coleman who pateented land (son's John and Richard)in Spotsylvania County, on Dec 2,1723. William Blaydes gave assistance during the Revolutionary War by furnishing supplies.
The following item from the Virginia Gazette proves that William Blaydes still had an interest in real estate in New Kent County, until 1779 are possibly longer.
"Stolen in Spotsylvania County, near Carr's Bridge, on 16th a Bay Horfe, 4 years old, branded with a dot, has a star on forehead. There is a $10. reward for information.
also Strayed or Stolen at providence Forge in New Kent, a Dark Bay Mare, 4 years old, branded with twitch tail and hanging mane $30. reward.
William Blaydes died in Spotsvania Co, Virginia, at his home "Spring Grove" on the 4th Oct 1785(family bible) His will was dated March 11,1784 and ws probated Dec 6,1785. In his will he devised certain property to his wife, Mary Ann Coleman, and states he has one son, John C. Blaydes and other children not named.
The youngest son, William Hawes Blaydes was born 4 mths and 4 days after the death of his father. I constitute and appoint my beloved wife, Mary Ann Blaydes, Executrix, Joseph Graves, John Blaydes, Hawes and Spencer Coleman Executors. Test; William Cason , William Brookes , Clayton Conemand, Jos Graves, Hawes Coleman, Geo Stubblefield, and Cayton Coleman. Children: Nancy, Mary md Hawes Graves, Elizabeth 2nd wife, Hugh Goodwin, Fanny Harris md Schuyler, William H. (Hawes Coleman and Spencer Coleman were brothers of Mary Ann.
Hawes Graves and Nicey Blaydes moved to Fayette County, Kentucky along with William Hawes Blades.
