JOHN EDWARD BURRIS BLACKWOOD, NC>TN>TX
This is my family line (recently located):
JOHN BLACKWOOD (? - died before 8/15/1789, Greene Co., TN - the date the Court recorded the will) married ANN (no further info). They had five children:
ELIZABETH BLACKWOOD, born about 1770,
MARRY BLACKWOOD, born about 1771,
WILLIAM BLACKWOOD, born about 1775,
ANN NANCY BLACKWOOD, born about 1783 and
ANDREW "ANDY" BLACKWOOD (about 1780, NC or SC -- December, 1858, Tippah County, MS).
ANDREW married SUSANNA ROBERTSON in about 1800. SUSANNA'S father was WILLIAM ROBERTSON, her grandparents were, CHARLES ROBERTSON & SUSANNA CUMMINGHAM (not confirmed).
ANDREW & SUSANNA had nine children:
WILLIAM J. BLACKWOOD, (abt 1801, TN -- 1837, on the trail from TN to AR)
married Rebecca Ann Kesterson in 1826, Hardeman Co., TN. They had five
children.

JOHN EDWARD BURRIS BLACKWOOD (1820, TN or Alabama -- 1897, San Saba Co., TX married CATHERINE KATTY PETERSON (1823, ? -- 1915, San Saba Co., TX). They had five children, one being;
MELVINA BLACKWOOD (1847, ? -- 1916, TX)
married JOHN HENRY HARRIS (1849 -- 1894). They had four children; one being; EVELYN LUCY HARRIS (1876, Port Sullivan, Milam Co., Texas -- 1930, TX) married in 1894, Kentucy to JAMES PARSHEL LOCKER (1872, TX -- 1902, TX) [second husband, FRANCES REAVIS]
They had three children, one being my grandfather, LEWIS HARRIS LOCKER (1899, TX -- 1942, CA)
Does anyone know ANN's maiden name? I was told it was Weems, but I've checked with that family and as of now, don't think that is the name?
I also located a inquiry in Orange County NC (rootsweb.com) on the BLACKWOOD FAMILY posted by Richard Pickett ([email protected]) dated 12/20/1998. This posting lists WILLIAM BLACKWOOD, SR (1706, Ireland -- 6/9/1774, Orange Co., NC) married to ELIZABETH (BETSY) CRAIGE. There children are:
WILLIAM, JR (1732 -- aft 11/23/1828)
MARTHA (abt 1733 -- aft 1790)
JAMES (abt 1734 -- 3/28/1810)
****JOHN (born 1735 - ?)
MARY (1744 - ?)
ANN (abt 1750 - ?)
JENETTE (abt 1753 - ?)
ELIZABETH (aft 1754)
Could JOHN be the JOHN & ANN in my family tree. Seems likely, but the only info that Richard Pickett has is that John was William Sr., son and he moved to Fishpott Branch of Hunting Creek in Rowan Co., NC. Does anyone know any thing else. JOHN & ANN named their first born boy, WILLIAM.
I located the following:
Minutes of Court, Feb. term 1793; John Weems is appointed Guardian of Nancy and Martha Blackwood, minor children of John Blackwood, dec'd. Minutes of August term 1793 session ordered that an order of sale be issued to John Weems to empower him to sell the perishable estate of John Blackwood in
Greene County, TN. Nov. 20, 1795: To John Weems from William Galbreath 200 acres on both sides of Lick Creek, grant #365, recorded in deed book 4 page
420. Nov. 8, 1798: 220 acres to John Weems, Jr. Nov. 9, 1798: 125 and 1/2 acres to George Weems. Nov. 12, 1798: 121 and 1/4 acres to William Weems who sold it to James Weems in 1807. Dec. 6, 1810: 112 acres to George Weems, also 30 acres of tract #3 on south side of Lick Creek to George W. Weems sometime in 1810. Feb. 12, 1812: John wrote his will. October 27, 1812: John Weems will is proven in Greene County, TN. Will is recorded in Greene County, TN, Will book 1, pages 51 & 52.
JOHN WEEMS's wife was KITTY. Does anyone know what connection the WEEMS family has to the BLACKWOODs. Either JOHN or KITTY should be relatives to JOHN BLACKWOOD or his wife, ANN, to become guardians to his minor children??? I was told by someone on the WEEMS List, that KITTY was NANCY CATHERINE GOODWIN, but there is no confirmation.
Thank you for any informaiton,
Linda Cashen Gaunt
