Blackstone Howard is our Howard brick wall.

The parents of our Blackston(e) Howard are not know at this time although many relate him to Samuel Howard & Frances Dryden of Harlan County, KY. DNA suggests this is not the case. I too have wondered about your William Blackston Howard of Roan Co., TN. This is about 100 miles west of Green County where my last Tennessee record is of my Blackstone in 1799 Tax records.

There is record of a William Howard living near Rockfish, VA. in 1792. He is listed in the "Ferry Operators, Virginia (and West Virginia), 1792". Rebecca Howard, first child listed for Samuel Howard, was recorded as being born in Cumberland County, VA. in 1751. The area where the ferry was located was in 1751 in Cumberland Co. (now Buckingham Co.).

An Allen Howard established a town called Howardsville 1744 just over the hill from Rockfish, VA.

The use of "Blackstone" may potentially to be the name of a minister serving in the region at the time by the name of John Blackstone. That Blackstone family seems to have moved on to Georgia by the 1800's.

Good luck!
