Looking for any Blackstone's or variants of the name who would be interested in enrolling in the relatively new DNA testing. This is an exciting adventure opening up many, many avenues of tracing ones lineage. It enables one to determine whether one is related another person of the same surname or to a person, say, in my case, a Blackstone, as to whether a person, say with the surname of Blacksten, Blackston, etc. are in any way related to you. This is very important! As with our line, we are direct descendents of Daniel Blackstone, born in Farmington, Me (or New Sharon, Me) in 1796. At that time, there were TWO William Blackstone's listed in New Sharon,Me on the 1790 census. One is William Blackstone, married to Lucretia Blunt. This William is a direct descendent of William Blackstone married to Abigail Varney, dating back to the 1600's. The other William is William Blackstone married to Elizabeth. Some say Daniel is the son of William (Lucretia) but there is no proof. In fact, the 1800 census states that this William had no male children in his household under the age of 10. Daniel would have been 4 years old at this time. Nothing is known about the other William married to Elizabeth except the 1790 census saying they were there and the LDS Microfilm documentation that William Blackstone and his wife had a daughter born in New Sharon in 1776 (five years before the other William arrived there) by the name of Susanna. This William and his wife, Elizabeth do not appear on any census after 1790, nor does Susanna. I feel that these Blackstone's are Daniel's parents. One way to solve this, is with DNA, or at least, who is or who isn't. Desparately need someone who is a direct descendent of the William Blackstone & Abigail Varney line to enroll in the DNA test, a simple procedure that can be down at home. Especially someone (male) who is a direct descendent of William Blackstone married to Lucretia Blunt, or his brother, Benjamin married to Lydia Blunt, sister of Lucretia. Benjamin descendents moved to Mainsville, Ohio in the early 1800's. A DNA test should show whether this line is related to Daniel's line or not. Christopher Atkinson who has many bulletins on this web site is the group leader of this DNA project. He has a superb web site concerning all Blackstone's and their variants of spelling. Also information about DNA. Just recently, a relation of his named Michael Blackeston is not related to our line, at least back to 5,000 years. The DNA test results also show who could be or are related to your line. I hope someone will be interested in enrolling. It would be a tremendous aid to all Blackstone's etc in tracing their heritage. Thank you for taking the time to read this plea. Bob Blackstone
