Information about and copies of Revolutionary War Pension Applications can be found at our US National Archives and Records Administration. For a copy of a pension file, one would need to fileForm 86 which can be ordered with that entity.Orders placed on NATF Forms 81 through 85 are generally completed in approximately eight weeks from the time they receive them. Please note, however, that orders placed on NATF Form 85, for full pension files, generally take twelve to sixteen weeks, due to the large size of the files. There is a substantial filing fee as well.
Further information about the National Archives and Records Administration can be found on-line at www.nara.gov.The site even includes an informative document about what is stored in the archives and how to do research there.
Having successfully ordered both revolutionary war and civil war milirary and pension files, my advice is to mail the form and then forget about it -- that way you won't become impatient with the inevitably long wait.
Good luck to you and if you think I can answer any other questions in this regard for you, please don't hesitate to e-mail me directly.
