Thanks to my 3rd. cousin once removed, by name of Jan, the mystery is pretty much solved. She found an 1880 "Agricultural census" for Hill County, Texas. It revealed that Sarah Blackmon was living with her father, John Brawley in 1880. It appears no children are listed of any of the farmers due to the fact this type of census was mainly concerned with the count of cattle one owned. But, I think it would be a safe bet that her children were with her at the time.

Thanks to all who have made an attempt to solve the mystery.
