Blackmer Family Genealogy Forum

On 6 Dec. 1998 Betsy Bruce Olsen posted a message to the Blackman forum searching for one Elmira/Almira (Blackmer) Blackmer, b. 31 Oct. 1799, who later m. Ebenezer Bruce and moved to Woodbury, Vermont. According to her data, "she is believed to be the granddau. of Roland Blackmer, b. ca. 1760," in/of Waltham, Mass., who m. Ruth Whitney. (A 39-year interval from grandparents to grandchild sounds a little tight, but...). According to Ms. Olsen, allied names may include Tucker, Stockwell and Manter. The New England Blackmans (descendants of Rev. Adam of Stratford, Conn., whom I have studied a lot; of the unrelated John of Dorchester, Mass., whom I have studied somewhat; and poss. Peter of North Yarmouth, Maine and the Mass. South Shore) and Blackmers (of Plymouth Co., Mass., appar. originating in Scituate and a bit later in Rochester, whom I have studied only in this and the previous post to this forum) appear to be separate families, so it's nice to have this forum for the Blackmers. There are no Roland Blackmans, but I did notice the birth of a Roland Blackmer in Rochester, Mass., in 1726, I believe to one of the Peter Blackmers and his wife Hannah. In the 18th century there was a lot of movement from Plymouth Co. to inland Mass. such as Worcester Co. and the Quabbin area. In the 1740s one of the Peter Blackmers, obviously formerly of Rochester, noted in Rochester VRs the baptism of one of his children at "Hardwikke" (Hardwick), Worcester Co., Mass. I'd suggest looking in VRs of Hardwick and surrounding towns. Hope this helps.
