I also am looking for a James Wilson who went to New Zealand in 1840 approx with wife and two young sons, Robert and Thomas. Allan was born later in Wellington as you say. We had estimated it might be around 1842 which fits with your death info. The family lived in Wellington then went to Turakina in 1850s where James took up land. He called the farm Ann Bank (which is also the name of a place in Ayr...James was said to come from Ayr...) Both James and son Robert were known for their farming skills, and their building skills. James built a house called 'Lindisfarne' where he retired.
We have few dates for James but more for Robert and his family as that is our line.
Robert married Jane Ann Moir from Arbroath in 1867 in Wellington and they they had 7 children. He worked in the Marton area until retirement. He moved to Sydney and died at Arlington, Neutral Bay,9th July 1921. His daughter Johanna also moved to Sydney. No dates.
Family names are Robert Hamilton, William Hamilton,Katharine Mary and Margaret Annie.
We have information about their time at Turakina and Marton.
William Hamilton Wilson b. 1878, Robert's son was my grandfather.
I have tried your e-mail before from Leith Hutton's message board but it bounces! Please contact me.
