Although I'm not researching Bizzell, but a few relationships for you to consider. Essentially, you area dealing with Isle of Wight, VA area families who migrated through Edgecomb/Bertie Counties NC to Johnston/Wayne Counties, NC. AFter the 1800 census of Johnston Co, NC you will find a large group of folks moved to the area of Rutherford County, TN (see 1810 census)... As the western lands opened, c.1824, many moved on to Hardeman County, TN. The group that was primarily in the Wayne County, NC area took two migration routes... c.1830, some going to Hardeman County and west TN, and others to South Alabama around the area of Eufaula.

I have William Lazarus Crawford b. 16 February 1847 d. 1916, 1.m. S.J. McKee 9 February 1875 in Hardeman County 2.m. Jerusha Laurena Field, 14 July 1886 in Hardeman County. William Lazarus and Sarah Jane Crawford's children included Willie, died young, THomas Franklin 1877-1951 and Lemuel. Thomas Franklin CRawford m.1. Amanda Mariah McKee 1901 in Tipton County, TN. HE is buried at Forest Lawn, Glendale, CA and was probably married two additional times. This information came from the granddaughter of Thomas Franklin Crawford.

William Lazarus Crawford was the son of Raiford Crawford and Nancy Jane Coore. Raiford Crawford was the son of Lazarus Crawford of Rutherford CO. TN and Johnston Co NC.

Amanda is a both a Raiford and Crawford family name. The Raifords did not come to Tennessee.

3 October 1808, Lazarus Crawford and Jessee Bizzell witnessed a deed of Frederick Herring to Frederick Wold in Wayne Co. NC. DB9.p125

The Grantham were from Wayne county, NC and went directly to Hardeman Co. NC. The Herring tie to the Grantham by marriage.

Your comments about an estate taking so long to be settled, suggests to me that the widow had a dowers right to the estate, lived a long time, and thus when she died, the estate was distributed among the heirs as listed in the original will or court ruling.
