George Bixler 1836-76, Pa & Ill
Posted by: Randal R. Campbell Date: October 21, 1999 at 03:31:21
  of 1058

My 2-great-grandfather was George Bicksler, B. 1836 in Pa. He married Mary Ann Gramley c. 1860. They appear on the 1860 census of Clinton Co. Pa, P.O.Mill Hall, ages 23 and 20, no children yet. About 1869 they moved to Shannon Co. Illinois, where they both lived the remainder of their lives. They had eight children as follows: Ida, Blanche, William, John, Cora (my great-grandmother), Porter, Annie, and Kate. George committed suicide in July 1876, before the birth of his last child. His wife eventually married Philip Fiscus, and died in 1919 in Shannon, Illinois. The Bickslers are buried in the Bretheren Cemetery at Shannon, Carroll, Ill. They were members of the Church of the Bretheren, and may have been part of a migration of German people or Bretheren Church people. I have been unable to find information on the Bickslers at all. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Randy Campbell
