Am not related but may be of interest to some one who is. I have no further info but some may be found in extracts from old newspapers at URL: <http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/index.php> Vern D /////////////////////////////////////// Transcribed by Dee Sardoch <deesar@frontiernet.net> ///////////////////////////////////// Stockton Daily Argus Stockton, San Joaquin Co., CA ******************************* >>Wednesday, 16 Mar 1861<< RASEY BIVEN vs. LIEUT. O.H. MOORE -- We noticed some days since a case of duello, that did not come off, between Rasey BIVEN and Lieut. O.H. MOORE. MOORE chose U.S. States muskets and bayonets with a braggadocio, and when the weapons were accepted, Lieutenant MOORE reconsidered the proposition. He concluded to resort to communications to the S.F. 'Times', in which he attacked the political views of Rasey BIVEN, as if the Republican party was interested in the matter! Lieut. MOORE says he is opposed to Duelling. In this he is right; but he should have taken this position before bragging of muskets and bayonets, as he would have been saved the lesson that the 'bluff game' is not always safe. He makes statements against BIVEN, but the evidences he presents contradicts himself. Notify Administrator about this message?
