Buettner, Saxony (Wends of Texas) 1854
Hi
I have been researching my Bittner family in Texas for quite a few years and just discovered that the original spelling of the name was Buettner and that the family was from Wartha, Saxony. They came over on the Ben Nevis ship in 1854.My immigrant was Andreas Buettner (Bittner). He is not listed with a wife on the ship list.He had children Marie Magdelene b.1835, Carl A. Michael b.1842, Agnes b.1844, Carolina b.1847, and Joh. August b.1851 d.1854.My Ancestor was Agnes Bittner (Buettner) who married a Carl Franke and lived in Industry, Texas.According to the research I've done these Buettners were of Wendish descent. The group they came over with were Wends escaping persecution in Saxony Germany.I have some more info on this subject for anyone interested. And would love to find any one else researching the same Buettner line.
