The father was Jacques Bise (Bizé), whose father was from Morges, Lake Geneva, and mother was Jiens family from Montbéliard. After migration to Nova Scotia, name was changed to Bizet, Biset, Bisset, and finally Bissett. Other variant spellings are Bessett or Bessette, Bassette or Bassett. This name is not Acadian French, but French Protestant. This family line goes back to 1610 in Montbéliard, Doubs, France. First settled in “new” Lunenburg, NS in 1753. Son Jean George Bisset moved with wife and family to Tatamagouche, NS in 1772. Granted land at Cole Harbour, NS, area (just outside Halifax) in 1783, J-G died in 1788.
