McArthur - Bisset marriage

My mother's branch of the clan settled in Huron County, Ontario, Canada, circa 1830, in the Huron Tract. I believe the progenitor was Samuel. They resided on the "home" farm until roughly 1900, when they relocated to a larger one some four miles distant.

I seem to recall that some of the gravestones in the early family plots reference the name McArthur, perhaps as maiden or middle names. There is also a fairly extensive McArthur family that has been in the area for several generations, so whether the connection originates in the old country or the new, I cannot say. I do know that the original settler was an immigrant from Scotland. The family has expanded, of course, and I have some knowledge of first and second cousins' whereabouts. I now reside in Greensboro, North Carolina, but my mother is still living in Colborne Township and is better aware of the history of the family than I am.

Her e-mail is claron@hurontel.on.ca.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. I cannot recall any family members travelling to Scotland in the 1970's, but I actually was raised in Toronto and visited the area only on vacation and for a couple of months in the summers before I reached an age where summer work was an option.
