We are exploring the links you mention via a DNA project we are running. We have found a group in Antrim, who all share a paternal ancestor, the name is varied in its anglicised form, i.e. McKeen, McKean, McKane, McCain, McKain. We know via the DNA the group is not related to the McDonnell Mac Eáin family, nor to the Ó Catháin family of Dungiven. We are exploring the possiblity they could be related to other Gaelic families who usd the names Mac Catháin, Mac Céin and Mac Eoghan (McEoin). McShane is spelled Mac Seaghan, but in Antrim was sometime aspirated to Mac Sheaghan... etc., so you are very welcomed to participate in the DNA test.
