Katherine,
There is no shred of proof that I am aware of that John Bish's wife's maiden name is Hetrick. This is a LOOOONG story, but I'm afraid that I am responsible for this bit of mis-information being out there. To date, no one has been able to accurately pinpoint a maiden name for her.If you could find Catherine's maiden name ~for sure~, I know alot of people who would throw you a party! :-)
John and Catherine Bish are named as heirs in the 1808 will of Elizabeth Titus, Tites, Fites. In this will, Elizabeth calls John's brother, Peter Bish, her "son-in-law" but does not identify John as such.I am of the opinion that there is some type of familial connection here, but I am not quite sure what that connection is.
In any case, John Bish was born circa 1772 in either Carroll Co.,MD or Germany Twp., York Co., PA (now Adams Co., PA)He died in March of 1826, and I THINK he is buried in a cemetery in Rural Valley, Armstrong Co., PA. (There is a very old, weathered stone there that says JOHN BISH, but no dates.) You probably already know this, but John Bish was another brother to the Philip Bish who was the grandfather of Catherine (Guthrie) Wolfgang, thus making John Wolfgang and Catherine Guthrie second cousins.
Catherine (Unknown) Bish was born circa 1780 in an unknown location (according to the 1850 census of Porter Twp., Clarion Co., PA, she was born in Pennsylvania). After John's death, she remarried to Jacob Frederick Confer in 1827.Catherine died on February 13, 1867 at the home of Elizabeth (Bish) Wolfgang in Beaver Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.I don't really know where she is buried though.Frederick Confer died in 1857, and I THINK he is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Porter Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.
If you could find one of John and Catherine Bish's children who lived past 1906 and died in PA, you could probably get a death certificate for them, which may or may not give Catherine's maiden name. The only problem is that I have not been able to find any one of them who lived past 1906, as most of them were born VERY early in the 1800's.I know daughter Lydia was alive in 1900 and living with her daughter Susannah Harmon Thomas. However, I haven't been able to find a death date or burial place for Lydia in Jefferson County, PA, so I don't know if she made it to 1906.
