I wonder if this John H. Bise could be related to my Bise family of Missouri. This link:

is to William Thomas Bise and Susanne Martin who had several children, (Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bise is my gr/gr grandmother). She married Benjamin Bowser (who fought with the Union during Civil War in MO infantry with his brother Lewis) in 1865 at 16.She had a brother named John Bise who is listed as one of her siblings. The Bowsers moved to Los Angeles, CA ~1880.
I saw another posting in this thread with a Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bise, and some other similar first names (which could be completely meaningless).
The $100 Bride family story at this link is worth the read.
My family edited-out the more lurid details of the story and told me that a Mr. Mason was a "good Christian" who took in my gr/gr/gr grandmother as an indentured servant or the expression my aunt used was "she was bound-out".
