Hello.I'm Debbie Lecair and Catherine Frances Birmingham Clifford Martinez was my great great grandmother.I have a copy of a letter she wrote:
To the British Counsel of AmericaNovember 16, 1926
My Father Thomas Birmingham and my Mother Bridget Nolan, daughter of Francis and Margaret Nolan (peasants) of Thurles, Tipperary Co. were married (Feb.24, 1846?) at Thurles, now all deceased.
My understanding is that there were two (Birmingham) sons.My Father was disinherited for marrying a peasant's daughter, but Grandfather (Birmingham) gave him enough money to come to America and my Mother and two children stayed with her parents until Father sent for them.Bridget (born Nov.30, 1836) and John (July 5,1849) were born in Tipperary,Ireland and Margaret was born at sea.My parents had seven children.
I never heard or do I know my Grandfather's first name. All mother would say (was) Your Father was a Gentleman by birth.I was born Sept.7,1862 and Father died Nov.17,1862 at Independence, Iowa.
