Brian,

Many thanks for your very detailed message. It certainly helps flesh out some lines. I am familiar with the area. In the mid 1980s I lived at Darlington and my travels took me to the area around Crook etc. Sadly, at the time I had no genealogy interest and didn't know of my family links with the area.

I am surprised that we have not encountered other Birkbeck researchers of these lines here.
