Moses left Alabama with his daughter Ritha Birdwell Parkhill Connally in 1849 and went to the Birdwell Tract in Hopkins County, Texas. Ritha Birdwell Parkhill Connally was my gg-grandmother was previously married to James William Parkhill. Ritha was born in 1812 in Madison County, Mississippi Territory which later became Madison County, Alabama. Several families came from Alabama to Texas through the following routes. This was taken from the Connally Manuscript written by a John Connally years ago. He mentions Moses as being Ritha's father. Anyhow, Ritha with several of her sisters and brothers, along with her husbsand George Connally and David G. Parkhill left Guntersville, Marshall County, Alabama via rafts and boats with livestock also. They went up the Tennessee River through Tennessee until they met the Ohio River around Paducah, Kentucky. They stayed there several months while Ritha gave birth to her son George Birdwell Connally. They finally left Paducah and went down the Mississippi River until it merged with the Red River in Lousiana. They traveled northwest on the Red River in Lousiana until it passed over a certain section in North East Texas where it merged with Click Creek. They settled alongside with her older brothers in the area of Hopkins County, Texas.
Ritha's full name was Mritha Louise Birdwell Parkhill Connally. I have heard from other sources that Ritha's mother was a Louise Marshall who was a daughter the Marshall of where Marshall County, Alabama got its name. I have no proof of this. But I have heard this may be true. Thus you have Marshall Birdwell and my middle name is also Marshall carried for 4 generations. My Dad's brother was George Birdwell Parkhill. My Dad's Uncle was Dr. George Birdwell Parkhill who was born in Greenville, Texas.
