Whilst it might be a romantic idea that the surname BIRDSONG is American Indian, it can actually be found in English Parish Records dating back to the 1600's.
***She wasn't on any records before or after her marriage to David Vastine Phillips in S.C.***
Orra is listed on the 1850 and 1860 census for Orangeburg, with her husband and children. Also in the HH in the 1860 census is a Franklin WILLIAMSON age 22. Possibly her brother ?
Haven't had time to check the 1870 census, but Orra is listed as Orra STONE in the 1880 census, still residing in Orangeburg.
All records list her as white.
By 1880 there were 1150 people named BIRDSONG in the US.
