Jim:I thought you might be interested in the following from Ruttenber's History of Orange Co.
"A colony of Friends from Westchester County, composed of Daniel, Zephaniah and Barak Birdsall, John Sutton and John Thorne settled on the Kipp and Cruger Patent (No.3) about 1791.Daniel Birdsall bought the place which McCoy had partially cleared and found there a log house with a bark roof, which he occupied.Barak Birdsall bought of Henry W. Kipp and subsequently became the owner of the Nicholas Stevens place."Ruttenber, p. 254
You might also be interested to know that Lavinia Purdy was the daughter of David Purdy and Courtney? Ruttenber, ancestors of mine.David Purdy was the son of patentee Joseph Purdy of Rye, N.Y., and grandson of Francis Purdy of Fairfield.Lots more history there!
Are you able to tell me anything about Mary Birdsall, b. 1690, LI, NY who married John Dorland of LI, NY.I believe her father was Henry Birdsall, son of Nathan Birdsall and Temperance Baldwin.?Their daughter, Mary Dorland, married Gilbert Purdy of Newburgh, NY.Looking forward to hearing.Beverley
