There is a copy of "The Loudoun Co. Tithables 1758-1786" by Hiatt and Scott at the courthouse.
Marty Hiatt has abstracted the Loudoun Chancery Suits up to 1800.The only mention of BIRD in those abstracts is:
M6711
John Gulick v. Samuel Gulick
Cause:Tresspass upon attachment
Filed: March 1788
Settled:15 April 1788
Decree:Discontinued. “Plaintiff take nothing by his bill but for his false clamour.”
The bill is not in the file, but this suit is about John Gulick taking or stealing sheep from Elisha Bird in the “Jerseys.” There is argument about killing hogs that belonged to Francis Labard. Samuel Gulick made oath that James Bird, Thomas Curtis, Joanna Bird, Rachel Bird, Hannah Osman, all of Hunterdon County, New Jersey are material witnesses. Supposedly the orator told the defendant, “Go home and steal Elisha Bird’s sheep.” There seems to have been a previous case, Henry Gulick vs. Ferdinand Gulick in common law, 1786.
Summons: John Gulick, William Stevenson, Mary Reed, Ebenezer Allen, Thomas Flood & Caty his wife, John Creymour, James Rightmire, John Moore and Abigail Moore, John & Jacob Moore, and Peter Hand.
Joseph Reed. of Loudoun, says Bird and Ozburn are brothers-in-law. In New Jersey, depositions were given by Hannah Osman (Yeibe Osborn). Elizabeth Leonard, Henry Stoll. Adam Lennard, Henry Lacock, John Roat, Elisha Bird, Andrew Kephart, Henry Gulick, Joseph Beavers, Mary Lennard, Johanna Bird (mother of Elisha) and Isaac Gray. Almerine Marshall appeared in Loudoun County before Thomas Lewis. Depositions of Henry Moore and Sarah Moore were taken at house of Jno Moore, innkeeper.
Ref: Court Order Book M: 166, 254, 255. “Ordered that Samuel Gulick pay Jacob Moore 200 lbs tobo for 8 days as witness. John Gulick to pay Ebenezer Allen.”
There are some mentions of Thomas Bird and Luke Bird in the Loudoun Order Books frm 1757-1786.
