Henry Bird of Rye, NY (b. 1754-1778) is a fairly well known individual who had 4 sons, 4 daughters, m. Martha (Mathew) Kniffen (1723-1824). Thanks to a group of cousins, we know a fair amount about branches founded by Thomas (b. 1759, moved to Long Island) and James (1764-1832, stayed in Rye). We would appreciate information on Henry and Martha’s other children: Henry (1757-abt. 1792, m. Leah Latting, no children), William (1770-1791), Anna (b. 1754), Martha (b. 1762), Anna (b. 1776 -- this implies older Anna died before 1776), and Lavinah (1778-1853).
Analysis of the DNA of Y-chromosomes of two descendants indicates that we form a unique lineage, quite different from the other Birds. Two thousand years ago there seems to have been a movement of an ancestor from a Balkan location to Germany or Britain, probably as a Roman soldier.
