My Great Great grandfather James Asa Bird---spelled it Bird, but his daughters changed the spelling to Byrd, he did not like that........James Asa Bird was the son of Nathan Bird and Elizabeth Chesser. Nathan Bird was killed on leave from the Civil War in front of his family, they burnt the house and took most of their things, Elizabeth and children had to live in the barn. She died later that same year 1864. If your Bird's came from NC then maybe somewhere we are connected? I really have to look into this more?
