Seeking any DOCUMENTED descendant of Thomas Bird of Dorchester, MA (1613-1667)
Seeking to contact any documented male descendant of Thomas Bird ("the tanner") of Dorchester, MA for possible inclusion in a DNA study of the Bird family.
I am able to provide a fully documented line of male descent from Thomas Bird of Hartford, CT.(This accounts for another group of early Birds.)
It would also be helpful to obtain a Y-DNA sample from any documented male descendant of William Byrd of Westover (VA).
These individuals represent the earliest known colonial American immigrant Birds/Byrds, who are known to have left male descendants.(Other Bird lines with which I am familiar are either not yet proved, or did not leave any male descendants.)
The purpose of the comparison is to establish a Bird Y-chromosome haplotype (or types) that may be used for comparison with other Bird families whose immigrant origins are not yet known. In order to obtain the best results, several male descendants (surname Bird) of each person should be compared. This reduces the chances of an error in the identification of the haplotype.Verifiable documentation of the male descent is absolutely necessary, since otherwise there is no basis for comparison between lines of the Y-chromosome.
