John, I think the person who referenced 3 william Birds was under the assumption the Andrew of Long Island and family were Dutch and that the Irish, English, and Dutch debates over William Bird's origin were refering to different persons of the same name.It is possible that there were Birds in same area that weren't related but I really believe that if not related here then they were connected on the other side of the big pond.I don't know how it all fits yet but I have a hunch that all these Birds were of the same family if you go back enough generations.William Byrd of Westover Va for instance (son of John Byrd and Grace Stegge)had an uncle in also in Va named William Bird who is sometimes confused with William of Westover. So that would mean William's father John Byrd and John's brother William Bird used diferent spellings of their name.I have seen this many times back in the 1500s and 1600s.Another John Bird sometimes John Burd or Burde mentions in his will "John Birde my brother Georg's sonne" so i think we have different branches of Birds all somehow related settling in different parts of America. One thing too is mention of a Shippen in will of Ann Bird in Philly who is listed as widow of Andrew. She mentions in will in listing her estate any of her property in England. So this would indicate she was of English descent. But then we have Col James Burd from Scotland marrying into Shippen family. This could indicate a connection between scottish and english Birds.Still looking for more info on that one.Phil
